hello, so far i've pored over all the documentation i've seen on the EA email server. however, i can't find info on how to test it.

for simplicity sake i'd like to use MS outlook to test it. what settings do i use in the email accounts tab?

if i'm only supposed to test it in program code where is a good place to look to get started?

thanks,
Scott

hello, thanks for the reply. i'm not trying to play dumb. however, there are still things i don't understand.

i understand that the normal approach is to register an internet domain. then give it a MX record that points to the IP address of the mail server where emailarchitect is installed. however, what if my connection to the ISP is dynamic, and not static? does it mean that I can't send out email because the IP of the mail server fluctuates?

Also, if I don't have to use an internet domain as my domain for SMTP purposes, can it be the email server's IP address or computer name? If so, how would i log into it when checking for email? provide administrator credentials? (this isn't working for me with windows's smtp email server.)

i know that this process is easy from your standpoint. however, i still don't have all the pieces to this puzzle that i need. any info back appreciated. Thanks.

"...Also, if I don't have to use an internet domain as my domain for SMTP purposes, can it be the email server's IP address or computer name?..."

what i mean here is since my IP address changes (because i have a dynamic connection) I don't have a routable IP address to my mail server. Still, could i put the non-routable network address as the domain? (I've unsuccessfully tried this from Microsoft outlook. I can't give my login information as username=administrator, password = admin's password.)

thanks.

...followup. i read about local domains. i logged into the admin utility. i put the (non-routable) network IP as the domain. i added a new user. gave it a password.

put this info in MS outlook:

Logon information: user name created for local domain
password: the password i created for it.
incoming pop3: the mail server's IP
outgoing smtp: the mail server's IP.

when i use Outlook's test button i can do everything but login to the pop3 server. also, i can't actually send a real email outbound via Outlook this way.

this is actually the same behavior i had with my windows xp smtp component. unfortunately, i've been trying to configure an email server for days now...frustation exists.

any help back appreciated. thanks.

...followup. it appears that my ISP is blocking my use of port 25 on my machine. so, the emailarchitect may work fine. my ISP won't allow me to use it. :(

my ISP blocking port 25 means i can't use emailarchitect as my smtp. could somone give me a few ISPs that emailarchitect can work with?

If you don't have a internet domain, that means you can't receive email from other email server.

To send email by outlook, please make sure:

After adding this account, select this account and click "Properties"->"Servers". Tick "my server requires authentication" and click "Ok".

After you sent the email, did you get the delivery report?

"After you sent the email, did you get the delivery report?"

i saw a delivery report that essentially said '553 - unable to rout local email.' so i now understand that to mean that my ISP is blocking port 25.

from my research it appears i can't use emailarchitect unless i either get another ISP, or find a service to receive my emails and forward them along on port 25. thanks.

Hi, could you send me the delivery report to our support address so that I can contact you by email directly and find a solution.
